Founded in 2012 by partners Mike Stevens, Adam Goldberg and Eli Lipman, Gathered Glassblowing Studio began as a small production hot shop, and fine arts gallery. Located in downtown Toledo, OH, Gathered continues the legacy of the “Glass City” as the birthplace of the American Studio Glass Movement. Over the last decade the business has evolved to include large scale public art installation, custom interior fixtures and furniture, and community oriented educational opportunities and events. With over 15 site specific installations, the studio promotes glass as a dynamic, evolving media, to a growing national audience. Gathered’s commercial designs are carried by a number of renowned art institutions including the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Corning Museum of Glass and the Museum of Art and Design in NYC.
Current owners, Mike Stevens and Adam Goldberg, met in 2008 as students in the Glass Arts program at Bowling Green State University. Mike Stevens was first introduced to hot glass as a high school student taking classes at the Broad Ripple Arts Center, in Indianapolis, IN. He finds inspiration in making art that has a function, which invites daily interaction, and is interested in the intimacy we build with objects through use. He expresses that care through his dedication to mastering traditional techniques developed through centuries of refinement. Hailing from Toledo, OH, Adam Goldberg found glass at age 15 when he took classes at the Toledo Museum of Art. His interest in the material has never ceased. Adam is drawn to the fluidity and purity of hot glass, and the need to collaborate with a team to make the work. Glass has taken Adam around the world, but he is proud to co-own Gathered Glassblowing Studio in his hometown.
