Ilya Sobol is a Los Angeles-based public artist and product design engineer. His work fuses emotional resonance with engineering precision. Diagnosed with ASD and ADHD, he transforms neurodivergence into a superpower—fueling a practice rooted in structure, sensory awareness, and human connection. Technology and engineering are foundations of his art journey, and he explores function and mechanics to create new meanings and interpretations. Whether crafting a festival installation that responds to color-coded clothing or developing a mechanically adjustable device, his work bridges the technical and the poetic.
As the founder of Izobrulo.art, he has developed large-scale light sculptures that have been exhibited more than 20 times across 7 countries, including the USA, Switzerland, Sweden, Croatia, Poland, Italy, and others. His installations often explore everyday human behaviors—like hugging, changing colors, or body language—as the foundation for playful, unifying experiences in public space. He is the creator of “Arteinment”—a genre-defying blend of art and entertainment that invites public interaction through light, movement, and gesture.
Beyond his artistic work, he is a senior product design engineer with over 8 years of experience in designing smart enclosures, wearable technology, and kinetic mechanisms. He has worked on international R&D projects involving IoT-enabled devices, 3D-printed precision assemblies, and interactive lighting systems, frequently blending aesthetic creativity with mechanical innovation. His iterative design approach—combining hands-on prototyping with agile feedback loops—results in reliable, elegant, and emotionally resonant solutions.
He believes in design that connects people, responds to real-world context, and transforms environments into shared moments of joy and curiosity.
