Dominic Laporte is a Canadian, award-winning muralist and illustrator whose practice sits at the intersection of portraiture, the natural world, and community heritage. Working in expressive realism, his murals combine traditional painting techniques with mixed-media approaches to create visually striking, emotionally resonant public artworks. As co-founder of DRIFT Mural Co., alongside project manager Anaïs Labrèque, he specializes in large-scale, place-based murals that celebrate local identity and the surrounding natural environment.
Influenced by early roots in graffiti, urban-contemporary art, and traditional painting, Dominic has developed a visual language that is bold, layered, and thoughtfully composed. His murals are built through the accumulation of imagery and transparencies, using shifts in opacity, gestural details, and vibrant color palettes to create depth and movement. At the core of his practice is an exploration of the relationships between people and their environments. Drawing inspiration from local narratives, community research, and native or endangered species, his work responds directly to place—creating compositions that offer immediate impact from a distance while revealing quieter moments of discovery up close and inviting viewers to develop a sense of connection and shared ownership within the community.
With over a decade of experience, Dom has completed more than 120 murals internationally. Projects range from small interior installations to large landmark works exceeding 8,000 square feet. Clients include municipal, federal, corporate, and nonprofit organizations such as the Royal Canadian Navy, Parks Canada, Lexus, and Molson Coors. Dom has also participated in mural festivals worldwide, including MURAL Festival (Montreal), the Vancouver and Nelson International Mural Festivals, SISAF (Romania), S’Art (Cambodia), Street Art Cancún, and Del Barrio (Mexico). He holds a valid O-1 visa for work in the United States, along with working-at-heights certification and commercial liability insurance.
