Biography

They are a Cuban couple based in Miami, Florida. It was decided to combine their independent art careers and form TRATOS. TRATOS is the alias they identify with to signify the artistic union they have chosen to make as of the past year. The name is a combination of both their last names - Travieso and Santos. “Tratos” in Spanish means a deal, a bond and a promise to one another to create a reality they wish to see with their paintings and murals. With this established collaboration and unspoken set of rules their goal is to tell an expansive story that is unique to their own experiences. Their work currently is focused primarily on growing, expanding and reconstructing a new entity - TRATOS. They are inspired by each other and allow their personal experiences to narrate their paintings. Their strengths do not collide but rather influence each other immensely. Travieso’s expertise in hard angles and fine details adds a dynamic contrast to Santos’ knack for soft edges and bold color. The works created become playgrounds that push them beyond their comfort zones.
