Closed - City of Williston Downtown Revitalization
Project Description
Walker Architects and the City of Williston are revitalizing the downtown area. The project includes refreshing the façades of single-story storefronts from E. Noble Avenue to NE 1st Avenue along N. Main Street. The historic passageway (the “arcade”) in the heart of this building will be restored and reopened to the public and will bridge foot traffic from Main Street businesses to the new pocket park in the footprint of the old Coca-Cola Bottling plant. The project is currently under construction and the current timeline for project completion is November.
The City of Williston seeks to commission an artist to create a welcoming mural downtown and hand-painted signage for downtown businesses. The total budget of $21,700 for the project covers both the mural and hand-painted signage. The work can be completed by two different artists or one who is skilled in both media.
The Mural
The mural, commemorating the City of Williston, will be located in the newly-restored arcade. Running the length of this covered exterior passage, the mural will be 88′ long and 10′ high. It will serve as a celebration of Williston’s history, natural context, and welcoming spirit.
Painted Signage
The Artist will create seven (7) hand-painted signs to be mounted on the Main Street façade. In the tradition of classic Main Street, each sign should have a distinct character. The Artist will also incorporate painted lettering directly onto the brick façade of the historic Coca-Cola Bottling plant building, defining the location of the new “pocket park” located in the building’s old footprint.
