Biography

Born in NYC Shapiro grew up during the 1950s. She was strongly influenced by the advent of television ads. Key themes Shapiro explores are Minimalism, composition, and narrative. She received an A.A.S. from SUNY Farmingdale in Advertising Art and studied painting with Professor Robert Huot at Hunter College. A 6-time published author, Shapiro also curated, wrote art reviews, and founded a small gallery. Although Shapiro has made art her entire life, the practice of digital creation fully took shape only since 2019. After being awarded a one-year art residency in 2022 Shapiro has been selected to exhibit her digital works in virtual and hybrid group shows from Canada, Greece, and Hong Kong. Shapiro's first Digital. Minimal. Interactive. Solo Exhibition took place with 100 works created between 2018-2023. Shapiro received a grant to create an installation about "There Is No Food Shortage," on view during October 2023. She also produced a series of digital collage artworks about the same theme and had a limited edition silver pendant with a diamond fabricated of the Bulgarian character originally influencing this project, as a reminder that food shortages don't exist, the problem is access.

I enjoy weaving surreal narratives, depicting images within the ethereal mindscapes of my subconscious. The heart of my creative essence is an exploration of mirroring and examining the boundaries of reality. My work bridges technology and concept. Notably, my discovery of digital artmaking in 2019 and the artist residency in 2022 marked a pivotal crossroads in my career and propelled me into the sphere of institutional art recognition, exhibitions and accolades. I am dedicated to making an impact on the realm of Beauty in digital art.
