Jenn Garrett’s work explores the unseen chemistry of our bodies, transforming tiny, invisible connections into large-scale public art. With over 10 years of experience and a unique blend of art and science, Jenn creates impactful, community-focused works that inspire curiosity.
“My work is about chemistry and the tiniest building blocks that make up our world. I’m interested in exploring the minuscule, unseen chemistry of our bodies- recreating those tiny connections on a massive scale, inserting them into the context of our built environment. How does something so small, invisible to the human eye, start changes in cells that create changes in the body resulting in large-scale changes in our personal lives: the creation of life, the start of a disease, the end of life. Undoubtedly, I have been influenced by my husband, a PHD chemist and research professor at the University Of Florida College Of Medicine. In our life together we explore the curious place where art and science intersect. We have three children together, a real-life experiment and symbol of art and science together.
I also have over 10 years of experience with public art, including commissions from the United States Army Corps of Engineers (River and Light), the Cade Museum for Creativity and Invention (Learn to See), and Orange County (Aviary), Orlando, Florida. My work has been included in exhibits throughout the United States and in Europe such as the National Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit in Charleston, SC, and In Context: The National Sculpture Exhibition in Dublin, Ireland. I have been creating public art that represents diverse communities for over ten years and I have all the qualifications and experience (and insurance) to develop, permit, fabricate and install public art projects safely, on budget, and on time. My LLC is a registered Woman-Owned (WBE) Certified Business enterprise in the state of Florida. My approach to public art projects is not all that unlike how an architect/contractor might work, moving from concept development to forms (hand drawings, computer models, etc) to fabrication plans, engineering, fabrication, finishes, and installation. My experience in creating fabrication drawings and having engineered drawings allows me to work directly with contractors, architects, and permitting officials to ensure that the installation of the work is successful.” – Jenn Garrett
